Last week Carla, Tania and John paid a visit to the community garden in Preston Road, Woolloongabba. They met with Roo, who had conducted a workshop a few weeks ago that was attended by many of our committee members. It was an early morning start and Roo provided some piping hot Chai tea and fresh bread, which was greatly appreciated by all. The visit included discussion on how the different raised beds were constructed, composting systems and additional considerations  such as tool storage, beehives with native bees, water collection and distribution. This information will greatly assist us in the journey we are undertaking and the pre-planning that is being done to assure our community garden is the best it can be. There is much more work still to be done.

The Association launched out community bookswap library on 14 August 2020, with a morning tea attended by our local councillor David McLachlan and many members of the wider Hamilton Reach community. Frasers provided some morning tea from Northshore Cafe. Hamilton Espresso donated coffees, which were enjoyed with community made cupcakes.  John Ryan championed the project, which was built by the Northshore Men's Shed and funded by Frasers Property Australia, with supplies donated by Bunnings Newstead. The library has been stocked with some of the donated books and our volunteer librarians have been keeping the shelves full ever since. It's safe to stay the library has been a popular new feature in the Hamilton Reach community. To those who haven’t already been to visit, I’m sure you’d be surprised by the variety of books available

Our Warm Up for Winter event has now concluded at Hamilton Reach with the colourful scarves that adorned trees in Northshore Riverside Park now in the safe hands of Homeless Connect. An initiative of our Hamilton Reach residents, more than 100 scarves and 100 beanies were knitted and donated to the organisation. Tim Nicholls MP and Dion from Homeless Connect were joined by our active Hamilton Reach residents to accept the donations. A big thank you to all involved - we hear more knitting is already taking place in readiness for next year!
